Wireless Communication Policy
In an effort to continuously improve safety at our workplace and in the communities in which we live and work, The Cat Rental Store has implementing a new Wireless Communication Policy. Effective January 1, 2007, the use of all wireless communication devices (including hand-held and hands-free cell phones, Blackberries, text messaging devices, pagers, etc.) by employees is prohibited while operating a motor vehicle in the conduct of business for The Cat Rental Store.
Studies have confirmed that driver distraction due to talking on a cell phone, either hand-held or hands-free, increases the risk of a motor vehicle crash by four to six times. This not only presents a danger to our employees, it jeopardizes the safety of other drivers and pedestrians. As an industry leader in safety, The Cat Rental believes that this policy, which promotes safe behaviour, is the right thing to do. If our employees must drive for extended periods of time, they have been instructed to stop safely at regular intervals to collect voice mail messages and return customer calls.
